Writer - The Content Factory

We're a growing content, PR and social media marketing firm headquartered in Pittsburgh and we're hoping to hire talented writers to meet the needs of our growing list of clients. So if weeping openly onto your writing degree is a weekly process for you, if the only writing job you've been able to find involves scribbling names on the sides of latte cups, or if you're simply ready to ditch your sparse freelance gigs and make the dolla holla full-time, today is your lucky day. What You'll Do Our writers have a lot of flexibility and can often choose from different projects and decide how much work they can handle. In many ways, this job is what you make of it, but to give you an idea of what you're getting into, here are some of the most common responsibilities we give writers: -Pitching article ideas for a wide variety of clients. -Writing and posting blogs, articles, reports, press releases, product descriptions and other online content. -All things SEO, at least as it pertains to copy. -Incorporating feedback and making edits when needed. -Attending conference calls with clients and other members of the team. Depending on your skill and commitment, your responsibilities can grow to include: -Managing social media accounts for large companies. -Interacting with journalists and editors to get placement on reputable websites. -Marketing your content online and compiling and sharing analytical data on your efforts with clients. -Hosting webinars and training sessions. Compensation and Perks Our writers are paid on a by-project basis (this is a 1099 contract position). This enables you control how much you can handle and how much you want to earn. Payment varies based on the difficulty and length of projects, but you can expect to earn anywhere from $500-$1000/week, and bonuses are awarded for exceptional work. Payment is made via check or PayPal on the 1st and 15th of the month. This position can lead to a full-time salaried position after a trial period of three months. As a content writer, you'll get to enjoy these perks: -Gaining experience writing for a wide variety of clients. -Building your professional network and collecting bylines and pieces for your portfolio. -Spending quality time with your cat/couch/both as you work from home. -Getting to see your work all over the web. -Setting your own schedule. -Laughing in the face of anyone who told you you'd never make a living writing. -Never having to change out of your pajamas (though we'd recommend it. . . at least occasionally). To Apply We have standards for our writers and we need to weed out the duds before we trust them with our clients' work. For this reason, we've developed a four-step application process. Here's how to apply: 1. Respond to this ad with your résumé and a cover letter you've written specifically for this position. The cover letter functions as your first writing sample, so make it good or you won't make it to the next round of the process. If you send us the same cover letter you used to apply for a technical writing job, you won't get a response. 2. If we like what we see, we'll email you back and ask you to write 12 sample blog pitches for three fictional companies: a quirky shoe retailer, a professional financial planner and a high-end realtor (four pitches for each). Even if your pitches are atrocious, we'll pay you $25 for your work. 3. If your pitches are solid, we'll choose one and have you write a 500-word blog based on it. After you've written 250 words, send us your work. From there, we'll either issue a kill fee or tell you to continue with the rest. Either way, you'll get $25 for the work. 4. If we're impressed by your first 250 words, we'll ask you to finish the blog and possibly give you some feedback to incorporate and/or some edits to make. After the blog is completed, you'll get another $25. Wow us with your final blog and you'll be hired for a trial run with real clients. If that works out, more work will follow. We realize this may seem like a lengthy process, but our priority is to find the right person for the job -- who will ideally be with us for quite some time.
