Contributor - The Full Bird

If you love to write about politics and are sick of the current online media paradigm, consider applying to write for The Full Bird. After looking around at the way online news is done at the moment, we saw two different issues that needed addressing: 1. News consumers tend to visit sites that already agree with their point of view, so they miss out on many views and stories that could challenge that. 2. News sites are either falling into a spammy, over-advertised, pop-up pandemonium that inevitably crashes your browser, or they put up a pay-wall, which eliminates much of their potential readership. The Full Bird has unique solutions to deal with both these problems. First, to deal with the polarized left wing vs right wing dynamic, we've brought both wings together and brought you the "Full Bird" of the news for the day. Under the blue, left wing, you'll find the biggest stories being covered by the left that day, and under the red, right wing, you'll find the same for the right. It's our hope this will lead to more open-minded, better informed news consumers. For the second problem, we are going to use a crowd-sourcing platform mostly used by those in the arts, called Patreon. The idea behind Patreon is that your followers and fans will voluntarily choose to give you $1 or $5 or whatever per month to support your work. This would operate a little like a subscription-based online news paper, but without the paywall keeping non-payers out. We will also eventually have a few of our own products and books to sell on the site as well, but no "25 Things About Naked Celebrities You Never Knew" ads popping up or littering the margins. Also, contributors to the site can gather patrons for our Patreon and get 80% of the money they raise. Some sites pay you a flat $5 or $10 an article (and the big ones will usually give you nothing but the privilege of posting on their site) but if you get 20 friends to each pledge you $2 on average, you can make $32 per article (as an example). Eventually, when the site has enough monthly patrons, we plan to have a steady payment for staff, but that's not possible yet as we're just starting out. There are multiple positions, mostly involving aggregating news, writing articles, and running social networks. There are also three different sections: Politics, Culture, and International. So, when you respond, let us know what kind of work you would like to do, for which section, and for the right wing side or the left wing side of the site. We have very big dreams for this site so this could be a great thing to get in on the ground level if you like the concept.
